"Dense ranking" is aptly named
One of my pet peeves is when someone puts together a ranked list, and when they can’t decide between two items, they call a tie, but then don’t skip a number after the tie.
For example, I just ran into this list of the top 5 fried chicken shops in Chicago, where the critic gives two restaurants the tie for first, but then goes on and names a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. This is of course...
